In response to interest expressed by
readers, I thought that I would put together a quick primer on where to find a few free
basic basket patterns on the web.
Many of the basketry suppliers offer
free patterns to complement their line of items for sale. Lots of good ideas are featured
in these patterns and they can be a good source of inspiration for your next weaving
project or something easy to work up with your younger family members or a beginner.
Remember to always get written permission to use a free pattern for any other purpose
beyond your own personal, noncommercial use.
Sheri L. Van Duyn publishes Just Pattern's a patterns-only basketry
publication. She offers several free patterns on her site, including Buckle Up Basket and
a Classic
Round Basket in her Pattern Exchange.
A
free pattern is included on Maurine Joy's Baskets
of Joy site from Brunswick, Maine. Maurine changes the pattern offered periodically,
so remember to print it out when you access it, or it might not be there when you return.
Jessie's Button Box a flat and round
reed basket by Jessie Buehlman is featured on the Basket
Class website. This round open basket features a seagrass rim filler and oak hoop rim.
A source is listed for a wooden cover to complement the finished basket. Basket Class also
offers a Munchkin Market Basket a
sweet little market basket pattern by Norma Buehleman, as well as other free
basketweaving patterns.
