Free Fabric Easter Basket Liner Sewing Project - Photo Credit - Kim Knox Used with permission - basketliner.jpg (14717 bytes)Fill your Easter Baskets with a simple fabric basket liner. The fabric liner is made in the form of a cross. The points of the liner fold over the edge of the basket. The inside of the liner lies smoothly and the handle is accommodated without the liner bunching up. Whether it is used in a basket you have woven yourself or one you have purchased, this basket liner can make any Easter basket more festive.

This simple sewing project will work up in about an hour. It can be sewn with a plain edge or lace trim could be easily added to make it more fancy.  I made this basket liner of a cotton fabric with an Easter egg and Easter basket print in pink and other pastel colors. Once you have made the basic basket liner using this pattern, you could alter the size or the edge detailing to suit the basket you want to line and the holiday you wish to celebrate. I can visualize this same project in a Christmas, Halloween or Valentine's print. As drafted, the pattern will fit into a medium-sized round or square basket. The shape could be altered to allow the liner to fit comfortably into an oval or rectangular basket. One yard of fabric is enough to complete one liner this size, as well as another a bit smaller.

Materials:

  • 1 yard of cotton print fabric in an Easter design
  • sewing thread to match fabric choice
  • lace or trim (optional)

Supplies:

  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Sewing Machine
  • Iron
  • Hand Needle
  • Pattern drafted on graph paper

Steps:

  • Enlarge pattern to full size from scale drawing
  • Fold fabric with face sides together
  • Lay out full size pattern on fabric
  • Cut out fabric along pattern edges
  • Pin fabric edges together (insert trim if desired)
  • Leave short section on straight seam unstitched
  • Stitch using a ¼" seam allowance around balance
  • Turn crisply at corners and stitch curves smoothly
  • Clip corners and curved seams carefully
  • Turn right side out
  • Press seams
  • Hand stitch the open edge
  • Press finished basket liner
  • Line your Easter Basket and fill with goodies
